Product Selection & Authenticity

How can one authenticate a genuine handmade Oriental rug?

Mansour emphasizes three fundamental criteria for authentic pieces: the rug must be entirely hand-woven using traditional techniques; it must be crafted exclusively from natural fibers such as wool, cotton, or silk; and it must originate from established rug-weaving regions, including Iran, India, Nepal, China, Pakistan, Russia, Morocco, Afghanistan, and traditional European centers.

What guidance do you offer for selecting appropriate size and design?

Measure your room carefully and subtract 2-3 feet from each dimension to ensure the rug sits gracefully within the space. For dining areas, allow a minimum of 2 feet on all sides of the table to accommodate chair movement. In living spaces, sofas may rest entirely or partially on the rug; if positioned off the rug, maintain no more than 2 inches from the front edge. For rooms with existing visual complexity, consider neutral designs; conversely, bold patterns can serve as compelling focal points when paired with understated furnishings.

What materials distinguish your rugs?

Mansour exclusively emphasizes natural fibers in our collections. We recommend wool or silk rugs over synthetic alternatives, as they develop character gracefully over time and represent superior long-term investments. All authentic Oriental rugs in our collection are crafted from these premium natural materials.

Care & Maintenance

What maintenance practices preserve the beauty of Mansour rugs?

Regular vacuuming—at minimum once weekly—using suction only without roller brushes maintains optimal condition. Periodically move furniture resting on the rug three to four times annually and vacuum the underlying area. Rotate rugs annually if they receive direct sunlight to prevent uneven fading and ensure uniform aging.

How should minor stains or spills be addressed?

For small stains, use a clean wool cloth with warm water; mild dish soap is the only recommended cleaning agent. Avoid household cleaners entirely. For comprehensive cleaning, professional hand-washing is essential. In the case of red wine spills, immediately pour white wine over the affected area until the red wine disappears, then blot with an absorbent towel and allow natural drying.

What is the proper response to loose threads or surface loops?

Occasionally, loops may appear on handmade rugs—this is characteristic of authentic craftsmanship. Never pull these threads. Instead, carefully trim the loop with sharp scissors to achieve a level surface with the surrounding pile.
