This antique, circa 1900, Persian Serapi rug has a tomato-red field with scrolling angular floral and leafy vine around a large central indigo-blue medallion with palmette pendants with a central ivory cusped medallion with a central brick-red and ice-blue medallion issuing angular palmette vine flanked by large polychrome cartouches each with a polychrome palmette surrounded by angular floral and leafy vine, the ivory, indigo-blue and tomato-red spandrels similar, in an indigo-blue border of polychrome turtle-palmettes linked by a dense floral vine, an inner tomato-red floral stripe between ivory floral vine stripes.
